Continuing Education in Alabama

Psychologist (PhD/PsyD):

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

Yes.

The Affirmative Couch, LLC is approved by the American Psychological 

Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Affirmative Couch, LLC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

2. How many CEs are required by my state?

20 hours of continuing education (CE) each year

3. How many CEs can be taken online by my state?

All 20 can be done online

LMFT:

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

No. All CEs for LMFTs in Alabama need to be from an NBCC provider. The Affirmative Couch, LLC is not a NBCC provider at this time, but hopes to be in the future.

Socila Workers:

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

Yes.

The board accepts APA-approved sponsored providers.

The Affirmative Couch, LLC is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Affirmative Couch, LLC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

2. How many CEs are required by my state?

30 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years, must include a minimum of 3 hours of ethics, a one credit course in child abuse and neglect reporting, and licensees who provide supervision need three (3) hours in supervision.

Social workers who have a PIP (private independent practice) license also need 20 hours in addition to the required 30 hours. All of the PIP hours can be by self-study.

3. How many CEs can be taken online by my state?

20 of the required 30 hours can be taken via self-study/home-study.

LPC and ALC:

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

No. All CEs for Professional Counselors in Alabama need to be from an NBCC provider. The Affirmative Couch, LLC is not a NBCC provider at this time, but hopes to be in the future.
