Continuing Education in Kentucky

Psychologist (PhD/PsyD):

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

Yes.

The Affirmative Couch, LLC is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Affirmative Couch, LLC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

2. How many CEs are required by my state?

Thirty-nine (39) continuing education hours every three (3) years. Must include a minimum of three (3) hours in either ethical practice or risk management, and a minimum of six (6) hours of continuing education in suicide assessment, treatment, and management within the first year of licensure and every six (6) years thereafter. Supervisors must earn 3 credits in supervision every three (3) years.

3. How many CEs can be taken online by my state?

KY psychologists can take twelve (12) credits via the Internet

MFT:

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

No.

From the board website: “CEU’s approved by licensure boards other than our own do not automatically receive approval and must be individually applied for.”

Social Workers:

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

Yes. The board accepts APA, NBCC, and ASWB CE

2. How many CEs are required by my state?

30 hours of continuing education every 3 years for LCSW, CSW (certified social worker) and 15 hours of CE every 3 years for LSW. Must take 6 hours of continuing education in suicide assessment, treatment, and management within the first year of licensure and every six (6) years thereafter, 3 hours of CE on domestic violence and elder abuse during the three year cycle following initial licensure, and 1.5 hours of CE on pediatric abusive head trauma once every six (6) years.

3. How many CEs can be taken online by my state?

30/15

LPCC and LPCA:

1. Do CEs from the Affirmative Couch count for my state and license?

No. All CEs for Professional Counselors in Kentucky need to be from an NBCC provider. The Affirmative Couch, LLC is not a NBCC provider at this time, but hopes to be in the future.
