Polyunsure After Polysecure
Presenter: Brittany Trexler, LPC, LCPC
Recorded Homstudy

Abstract
If your clients are like mine, you've heard them say something like "I read Polysecure but I don't really know what to do next!" Fern's book digging into how attachment theory can be applied to polyamory has been embraced strongly by the poly community but as therapists how do we help take the insights clients have gained from their reading and move them further in their personal journeys? Polysecure (2020) and Polywise (2023) both tackle difficult and common issues of communication, building security, navigating jealousy, transitioning into polyamory and more but as therapists we have the tough job of helping clients take all these insights and turn them into new practices or thought patterns. This session will cover next steps and considerations for therapists looking to dig into attachment work, utilize the HEARTS model presented in the book, help clients create security in relationships, and challenge toxic monogamy with their polyamorous clients.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Help clients apply concepts of attachment theory to their personal therapy journeys.
- Use the HEARTS model to help clients apply these principles through in session and at home exercises
- Support clients in navigating CNM dynamics like NRE, transitioning out of a relationships or breaking hierarchies
