Get to know me:
I am passionate about education and training for mental health professionals as a way to create healing for sexual, gender, and relationship expansive communities.
What do I do?
I oversee all the staff, presenters, and authors to make sure that The Affirmative Couch runs smoothly. I develop strategic plans and insure that we can continue to fight stigma with knowledge well into the future.
What does affirmative psychotherapy mean to me?
Affirmative psychotherapy goes beyond just being friendly or open-minded. It means that the psychotherapist understands how to deal with the multiple oppressions affecting the client/patient on both an unconscious and conscious level. The psychotherapist understands how to avoid racist, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, misogynist, and ableist enactments in the sessions through directly addressing them in the room. This ability requires training, supervision/consultation, and education.
I love bunnies!
