Get to know me:

I am a femme therapist and I love working long-term, relationally, and one-on-one within my queer community! I started my private practice Mophead Femme Therapy in San Francisco, CA in 2017. Now, it’s virtual, full-time, and deeply fulfilling.

What does affirmative psychotherapy mean to me?

My work is all about supporting femmes to live loudly and take up space, whatever that means for you. I believe in the affirmative value of intentional femme therapy. My mental health practice is centered around identity rather than issues in order to focus on celebrating femmes as we already are. Dedicating space to our queerness is foundational for psychotherapy to be affirmative.

What populations do I work with? What is my level of expertise (friendly, knowledgeable, expert) for each of those populations?

I specialize in working with self-identified queer femmes who strive to fully embody their sexuality, identity, gender expression, and creativity. I work with bisexual, pansexual, polyamorous, non-monogamous, kinky, fat, trans, and nonbinary femmes.

I don’t call myself an expert because 1, as a white, cis, thin femme of middle-upper class background, there’s no way I’m able to be an expert on femmes, and 2, I think therapists being positioned as experts is an extension of patriarchy within psychology that I want to dismantle.

What is my approach to healing?

My approach to healing is for femmes to be the adult to their inner child that they need. To exercise choice as an autonomous person that their younger self wasn’t able to. To feel their agency in being the person for themselves that honors their emotions and has control. To feel empowered to be bold and confident and recognize that doing so is a radical act of self love. To be able to contextualize your experience within misogyny. To connect with others as this empowered person. That is my approach to healing.

What issues am I most skilled at addressing as a mental health professional?

Relationship and life transitions, shame, self-doubt, insecurity, invisibility, bi+ identity crises, estranged relationships with your family of origin, prioritizing your own needs (or even knowing what your own needs are), asserting boundaries, trust, depression, anxiety, trauma, emotional neglect, internalized homophobia and transphobia.
