Get to know me:
I am wholeheartedly committed to fat/body, gender/trans, and Black/racial liberation. Though I am frequently not accepting new clients, I am often able to fit in trans folx in MA or RI seeking a gender affirming surgery assessment/referral.
What does affirmative psychotherapy mean to me?
I work to create an environment that feels welcoming and validating for all of the intersections of identity, body, mind, life experiences, culture, and history. My goal is to help nurture the pain of oppression and marginalization, while creating opportunities of reclaiming power and justice.
I believe we have the capacity to hold pain and suffering while also moving forward through challenges with courage, vulnerability, and self-compassion. I aim to help clients to be more present and connected to themselves, aiming for radical self-love (see The Body is Not an Apology, 2nd Ed, Taylor, 2021).
What populations do I work with? What is my level of expertise (friendly, knowledgeable, expert) for each of those populations?
My specialty and passion is supporting trans, gender nonbinary, and queer adults. I am polyamorous-, kink-, sex worker-, and intersex-positive as well. I’ve had years of experience serving young adults and college students, primarily in the university setting.
What is my approach to healing?
Clients might describe me as actively engaged, affirming, authentic, humorous, passionate, and not afraid to ask tough questions. My approach is collaborative and integrative with elements of relational cultural theory, narrative practice, interpersonal process, feminism & social justice, anti-racism, and body liberation frameworks.
When we work together, I see it as a collaborative process of building a relationship that is mindful of power dynamics, having tough conversations in a respectful and compassionate space, and allowing plenty of flexibility for you to set boundaries and express your needs in treatment.
What issues am I most skilled at addressing as a mental health professional?
Gender affirmation and exploration; Supporting access to gender affirming medical care; Validating and healing from various forms of oppression; Anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms; Increasing vulnerability and shame resilience through mindful self-compassion; and Understanding the impact of past and current interpersonal relationships as they relate to current struggles.
