Get to know me:

I’m a licensed psychologist with a small private practice, in addition to full-time work at a university counseling center. My specialty is working with queer, trans, and gender non-binary people, focusing on topics such as relationships, sex, trauma, oppression, anxiety, and helping many folks to access gender affirming care.

What does affirmative psychotherapy mean to me?

I believe in creating spaces where all feel welcome and validated no matter their background. Too many individuals go through life being targeted or held back for not fitting into the white-cis-heteronormative culture, and I strive to help hold the pain of those experiences while pursuing social justice.

What populations do I work with? What is my level of expertise (friendly, knowledgeable, expert) for each of those populations?

I work with adults primarily and am a generalist clinician, knowledgeable with most clinical concerns. My area of expertise is working with trans and gender non-binary individuals, as well as those with multiple queer identities. I am knowledgeable about polyamorous relationships, as well as working with kink communities.

What is my approach to healing?

I approach my work from a collaborative, interpersonal approach while being mindful of power dynamics and the impact of varying intersecting identities. I believe we have the capacity to hold pain and suffering while also moving forward through challenges with courage, vulnerability, and self-compassion. I aim to help clients to be more present and connected to themselves, aiming for radical self-love (see The Body is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love, Sonya Renee Taylor, 2018).

What issues am I most skilled at addressing as a mental health professional?

Gender affirmation and exploration; Validating and healing from various forms of oppression; Anxiety and depression symptoms; Increasing mindfulness and self-compassion; and Understanding the impact of past and current interpersonal relationships as they relate to current struggles.
