Course Description
This course provides affirmative clinical supervisors with a foundational understanding of the theory and practice of supervising affirmative pre-licensed clinicians. The course will cover the importance of building the supervisor-supervisee relationship and strategies to develop a strong working alliance. We will introduce four supervision models based on competency, treatment (or theoretical orientation), development or an integration. We will also cover the supervisor developmental model, as well as strategies for transition from being a clinician to a clinical supervisor. Through didactic lecture, discussion, and vignettes participants will learn to apply supervision models to their supervision, with an emphasis with either LGBTQIA+ associates or associates working with LGBTQIA+ clients.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe at least one strategy for building a strong supervisor-supervisee working alliance
- Compare and contrast competency-based model of supervision with the developmental-based model of clinical supervision
- Describe at least 2 major models of clinical supervision
- Describe the developmental stages of the supervisor
- Describe at least 2 methods for supervisors to assist associates in development of competencies of working with LGBTQIA+ clients
- Apply at least 2 strategy for addressing areas of difference in clinical supervision

This course is the 2nd part of a 15-hour series designed for current and aspiring clinical supervisors in California, fulfilling the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) mandated initial training requirements for supervising Associate Clinical Social Workers (ACSWs), Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFTs), and Associate Professional Clinical Counselors (APCCs). About the Presenter
Cadyn Cathers, PsyD, MBA (he/him/his) is a licensed clinical psychologist and clinical supervisor in California. He is a genderful, bisexual transgender man. He has a speciality in working with LGBTQIA+ communities, focused on psychoanalytic psychotherapy transgender and nonbinary adults, identity development, preparing for gender affirming surgery, and pre-verbal trauma. He is the founder and CEO of The Affirmative Couch, which offers online continuing education to mental health professionals on working with sexuality and gender. Additionally, he has been teaching other mental health professionals for over a decade as faculty at Antioch University Los Angeles, Reiss-Davis Graduate School, Cal State Los Angeles, and others.

Format
Live, virtual presentation with the opportunity for interaction with the presenter. This course will be available as a recorded homestudy approximately two weeks after the event.

Completion Requirements
Live Event
- To get CE credit for the live event, you need to be present for the entire course.

- This presentation will be recorded and available as a homestudy approximately two weeks after the live event.
- Your active participation will contribute and enhance the learning of participants that complete the recorded homestudy version.
